We're your neighborhood Appalachian bar settled in Marshall, North Carolina!
Mal's is a special establishment in our sweet mountain town serving beer, wine and hot dogs. We host live music twice a week as well as other creative events like flea markets, block parties, and karaoke. Imagine 'Cheers' meets Appalachia!
HOWDY! I'M MAL -
People call me Mal or Mallory for long. I moved to western North Carolina in 2009 and always had a little dream about opening a bar in our sweet little town. When I was presented with the opportunity, I jumped! I never knew how much this bar would become so much more than a bar to Marshall. It's not just the space - the people, patrons, musicians, and community are what make it special.
When I'm not at the bar... I'm probably with my son, playing with the dog, swimming and fishing in the river, singing Jewel or 90's country, doing a shift in the ER at the hospital, or being weird with my friends.
HELENE 2024
In late September 2024, our town of Marshall was hit by Hurricane Helene. Our town was flooded by 26' of the French Broad River. The water reached 11' inside of Mal's. Our town and gathering place was destroyed, but our spirit was not.
Since then, we have been hard at work as a town and community to clean up and rebuild our town!
Due to this natural disaster and the damage to the bar, we are temporarily closed until we can clean up and rebuild the bar.
